Mary is a writer, poet, retreat leader and Episcopal priest. Her ministry focuses on spiritual direction, contemplative prayer, and interfaith dialogue. Mary’s most recent book, Days of Grace: Meditations and Practices for Living with Illness, was published by Morehouse in August, 2009. These meditations originally appeared on the www.explorefaith.org website. The meditations are inspired by the psalms and are accompanied by suggested spiritual practices. The audio CD version of Days of Grace is enriched by the music of Ben King's album The Laying on of Songs" (available from Amazon.com or CD Baby). Days of Grace has also being featured by Spirituality and Practice, an award winning website featuring offerings on spirituality and health. Mary is the author of The Desert Mothers: Spiritual Practices from Women of the Wilderness, Beginning Again: Benedictine Wisdom for Living with Illness and Broken Body, Healing Spirit: Lectio Divina and Living With Illness. Her other works include Holy Companions: Spiritual Practices from the Celtic Saints and Praying With The Celtic Saints, both coauthored with Sylvia Maddox. With Covita Moroney of the SAVAE she created Sofia's Table, a CD of poems and songs celebrating the divine feminine. She has also published several articles and numerous poems. Both Beginning Again and The Desert Mothers are now available in audio CD format and as MP3 files from Amazon.com or Itunes. Mary teaches online classes for the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, and Author in Residence at the The Workshop, a ministry of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Antonio. She was awarded the Durstan R McDonald Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in September, 2003. In February 2010 Mary will be teaching a seven week online course, "Holy Companions: Spiritual Practices from the Celtic Saints.” To register or for more information visit the Seminary of the Southwest online registration page. Mary is a member of Spiritual Directors International and has offered workshops at their annual conferences. At this April's SDI Conference in San Francisco, "Gratefulness: The Heart of Spiritual Care" Mary will offer a workshop entitled "Graced Limitations: Spiritual Practices for Living with Illness." Mary's poetry has been included in the 2009 Texas Poetry Calendar and in the anthology Big Land, Big Sky, Big Hair: Best of Texas Poetry Calendar, Lifting Women's Voices: Prayers to Change the World, and Sustaining Abundant Life, a book of poetry in honor of Women at the Well House. She and her husband, Doug, live in San Antonio with their three border collies, Maggie, Graford and Fiona, their six-toed cat, Cuthbert, and a "grand-cat" named Leftovers. |
